During this time of teacher shortages that are sweeping the nation, we are growing our own and couldn't be more proud. Congratulations to Marlee Sais for qualifying to be part of the SD TAP Cohort 3 Group! (see more info below). Also Congrats to our Alternative Certification Teachers appointed by the South Dakota Department of Education. All hold current Bachelor's and Master's degrees and bring that experience to the classrooms while completing the classes required by SD Department of Education for certification. We Are Newell!
More about Marlee:
Marlee Sais has the opportunity to join the SD TAP Cohort 3 group!
The Teacher Apprenticeship Pathway is a program aimed at moving paraprofessionals (i.e., teacher's aides) currently working in South Dakota schools to certified teaching positions.
NSU and DSU offer the necessary coursework over a two- to three-year period, culminating in a student-teaching experience in the paraprofessional's home district and resulting in a bachelor's degree in education.
Coursework is offered virtually in the evenings or other convenient times, so the apprentice-teacher can continue to work in the school as he or she is taking classes.

To accommodate the growing number of three and four-year-old students coming to school this fall, we will need to continue our 'half-day schedule' for Preschool Classes. This is great news! Three-year-old preschool will be held in the morning. Four- year old preschool will be held in the afternoon. Each class is still accepting registrations. Please join us by contacting Mrs. Lubben at kylee.lubben@k12.sd.us or 605 456 2393

We have one teaching position open and a few coaching positions. Come join our team. https://www.newell.k12.sd.us/page/about-us1

For those who are *serious* about increasing their skills for a future in basketball!
For all levels from beginner to experienced.
Coach High takes basketball seriously, while making it fun & engaging to develop & perfect skills! His goal is to develop every player into an all-around 🏀 player!
For his 1st clinic in SD, he’s offering this FREE camp.
About Coach High:
Newell Middle School Head Coach Dan High graduated from South Sevier High School in Monroe, Utah. He grew up in an area of Utah where everyone ate, drank, and slept basketball! They had amazing basketball programs all over the state. Growing up playing ball, and as a coach, he saw lots of really talented kids that, because they didn’t know the right people, didn’t have the right coach, or through some other reason that was no fault of their own, never had the chance to learn the skills to help them be able to compete at a higher level. Coach High wanted to take the skills that he had learned and be able to teach all the kids who wanted to, to be the best basketball player they could be if they put in the work.
To Coach High, basketball is more than a game. It’s a life skill that teaches individuals to work hard, face adversity, overcome hardship, and find success through hard work. Learning to work as a team and finding joy in working with others turns into being a reliable part of the community and a better person overall.
High began consistently coaching around 2010. He coached his oldest daughter’s teams, 5th-8th grade in Utah. Then was asked to coach the all-star teams in AAU leagues and Utah Summer Games through the state. Coach High helps players one-on-one as a “shooting” and “elite guard” coach, to help them get to the next level to help them achieve their goals.
Inspiration came from one of High’s bantam basketball coaches, Shawn Smith. He helped High to become a 20-30-point-per-game scorer, and the “best defensive player”. “
Coach’s goals are to help inspire each athlete to reach their full potential, increase basketball skills, focus on fundamentals, and learn to let individual success and team success carry over into their academics. I want to help each athlete want to lift and inspire their teammates. Also, a big goal of mine is to build a basketball program at Newell School that the youth coming up will aspire to be a part of, so they will in turn work hard at a young age, to develop their fundamental skills and be excited to join the middle school and high school boys teams.

Mark your calendars Volleyball gals. Hardrocker Team camp coming up. Please contact Becky Johnson at 605-490-7650 to register.

OPEN GYM has been updated to add Thursday nights for Volleyball team.

A message from Miss Hendrick:
Newell Middle School Track and Field Team ended with a bang! The student-athletes finished the school year and track season strong. The student-athletes should be so proud of themselves. Throughout the season, students continued to PR and preserve. Every athlete beat their records from last year. We had our own awards banquet where all the students were acknowledged for their efforts and accomplishments. As a team, students participated in the "Paper Plate Awards". Each student and coach got another teammate's name to create an award for that person specialized to their strength and gifts that elevated the team. This activity demonstrated the unity and kindness of the team we had this year. The LMC Championship proved their grit and tenacity even with a few kids gone. The Women's Team gaining the title of LMC Conference Runner-Up along with decorating themselves with multiple individual and relay awards.
Coach Tommy comments,
"Our team is small but we came together like a family! We were the under dogs all season and we showed the other teams what we are made of when it counted at the LMC!"
Coach H comments,
"I can confidently state that each member of our team gained confidence and skill this season. The girls showed up at bosses, the boys consistently demonstrated patience and helpfulness. Together they made a goofy, fun-loving, and coachable team."
