Newell Elementary has taken on the first year of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) this year coupling that with a new system of assessing students in the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. Utilizing the data from the assessment process allows us to individualize needed interventions to students.
We now see the benefits of the teachers' and paraprofessionals' hard work.

It was a big day for our Kindergarten! Congratulations on your graduation!

The Adventures of Boone is a story written about a real live dog belonging to the Kitzan family. The 4th- grade students authored the story and actually met Boone this week when he made an appearance at the school. Great job 4th grade!

Congrats Coach Donahey! Head coach JV Girls Basketball.
Shawn Donahey comes from a long line of relatives residing in Newell, South Dakota, from his own family to his parents to his grandparents. He graduated from Newell High School in 1994. His wife Katie, "runs things," as he fondly stated. His daughter Nevada, a freshman, son Coy, 2nd grade, and son Haes, Kindergarten, all attend Newell School.
Coach Donahey partners in a fencing business and buys and sells cattle for a living.
During his high school years in Newell, Coach Donahey felt privileged to have played basketball under Randy Faeth. He was a South Dakota Coach of the Year with a proven track record of taking teams to the State Level in all Divisions.
Coaching to inspire is Donahey's goal. He not only wants to help the team learn to play basketball but wants his team to take away some life skills.

Congratulations Hailey McCann!
Students from across South Dakota who are in the top 1% of their graduating class each received a pin as well as a certificate signed by Governor Rhoden and attested by the Secretary of State with the State Seal. Each honoree also had an opportunity to get their picture taken with the Governor.
The future is in good hands with these amazing South Dakota students.

3rd Grade Field Trip: "3rd grade traveled to Hill City to the Dinosaur Museum to learn all they can about dinosaurs and other animals! They were able to meet with a paleontologist, asking many questions and learning as much as they could in our short visit. Once done, we were able to explore the shops in Hill City before heading back home," Mr. Engel.

4th Grade Field Trip: Wind Farm
We had a presentation about the turbines and their maintenance, the equipment needed to work on them, and the power they produce. They generate enough to power 35,000 homes each day. They sell the power to Newell and Rapid City. Each tower is 100m high, and the General Electric techs that were there sometimes have to climb 3-4 times a day. We got to see their equipment which helps with that.

The Athletic banquet was well attended, the food was delicious, and the awards were well deserved. Thank you coaches, students, parents, and all who contributed to such a great 2024/2025. Each coach presented group and specific awards. Well deserved and congratulations to all!
