Greetings from South Dakota State University! We are excited to announce that we are launching two dual credit scholarship opportunities for high school juniors and seniors who are planning to complete or have completed dual credit coursework through SDSU.

Jackrabbit ACE Scholarship

Beginning Fall 2020, the Jackrabbit Access College Early (ACE) Scholarship provides opportunities for economically disadvantaged high school juniors and seniors to enroll in dual credit courses at SDSU. Students who qualify for the Jackrabbit ACE Scholarship will receive a scholarship that funds one dual credit course (up to five credits) each semester of their junior and senior year of high school and the summer between their junior and senior year. Textbooks and/or course materials are the responsibility of the student. This could mean a student could earn 15 or more credit hours from SDSU tuition-free and be well on their way to a college degree!  Students may enroll in and pay for additional dual credit courses out of pocket.

Eligible students for the Jackrabbit ACE Scholarship must meet one of the following:

  • Enrolled in a federal free or reduced-price lunch program at school, based on US Department of Agriculture (USDA) income levels.
  • Family’s total annual income is at or below USDA levels for free or reduced-price lunches on the USDA Food and Nutrition Service website - www.fns.usda.gov.

Eligible students must complete the Jackrabbit ACE Scholarship application at sdstate.edu/dualcredit. A high school administrator must verify the student meets one of the income criteria noted above and sign the Jackrabbit ACE Scholarship application.

Jackrabbit Journey Scholarship

Beginning Fall 2021, the Jackrabbit Journey Scholarship will be available for any student who enrolls as a full-time freshman at SDSU who also earned dual credits from SDSU. To be eligible, students must earn a “C” or higher in all dual credit courses completed during high school and enroll at SDSU as a full-time, first-time freshman student. The one-year scholarship will be awarded based on the number of SDSU dual credits earned:

  • 1-6 credit hours = $500;
  • 7-12 credit hours = $1,000;
  • 13 or more credit hours = $1,500.

In addition to these great scholarship opportunities, SDSU is committing to you and your students that dual credit course options will be readily available for them.  SDSU is guaranteeing that seats in a select group of courses, those that satisfy general education requirements and serve as strong dual credit options, will be available for any high school student who is accepted to the dual credit program and registered for courses two weeks prior to the first day of a given semester.  The group of identified courses includes:

  • ENGL 101 – Composition I
  • ENGL 201 – Composition II
  • MATH 114 – College Algebra
  • POLS 100 – American Government
  • PSYC 101 – General Psychology
  • SOC 100 – Introduction to Sociology
  • SPCM 101 – Fundamentals of Speech
  • One of the following three courses:
    • ARTH 100 – Art Appreciation or
    • MUS 100 – Music Appreciation or
    • THEA 100 – Introduction to Theatre

You and your students will be receiving a brochure with additional details in the mail soon and we want to ensure you are aware of these great opportunities for your students. If you or your students have any questions about either of these scholarship programs, please do not hesitate to contact Tracia Hogue, SDSU’s dual credit coordinator, at Tracia.Hogue@sdstate.edu or 605-688-5278. More information about both scholarship programs can be found at sdstate.edu/dualcredit.

We will also offer two Zoom sessions next week to answer any questions you may have regarding the Jackrabbit ACE or Jackrabbit Journey scholarship programs:
