Coach Russ Morrell Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship provides a $1,000 award to a worthy SD high school graduate attending a postsecondary institution. The award will be made in two $500 increments awarded at the beginning of each
semester of the student’s freshman year, payable upon registration. The completed application is due
on or before March 15 and must be submitted as ONE (multi-page) document to this email address:

Russ Morrell spent his professional life in service to others as a teacher and coach. He did so with

Applicants for this scholarship award must meet the following minimum criteria:
 Graduate from a South Dakota high school;
 Attain a minimum 3.2 GPA through 7 semesters of high school;
 Provide a list (resume′) of extra-curricular and community service activities;
 Submit a 300 to 500-word essay detailing a personal story which illustrates an event in which
the applicant demonstrated resourcefulness and optimism in the face of adversity; and
 Provide contact information (phone and email) of two character references who can speak on
behalf of the applicant’s ability to demonstrate perseverance. Contacts will also be asked to
speak of dedication to the service of others. Character references may not be related to
applicant. Please inform character references that they may be contacted by members of the
selection committee.
(Note: Preference may be given to a student from Burke, Bon Homme or Wagner high schools.)
