Additional Required Information:
The following material must be submitted as part of your application. Please mail
to: BHSS Foundation, Scholarship Program, 444 Mt. Rushmore Road
North, Rapid City, SD 57701.
1. Letter of acceptance from college or university you plan to attend.
2. Letter of recommendation from school administration or staff.
3. Copy of high school (college) transcript indicating GPA.
4. ESSAY: “Advancing My Western Heritage Through Continuing Education and
Career” (No less than 500 words)
5. Current color portrait of applicant. (Printed on photo paper. Headshots
preferred.)
Stock Show Foundation Scholarship.
1. I must attend a post-secondary accredited institution. This includes trade
and vocational schools.
2. The scholarship will be disbursed directly to the institution I will be
attending.
3. If I withdraw from school during the time for which a refund is due, the
refund will be prorated back to the scholarship fund of the Black Hills Stock Show
Foundation.
4. I understand that I may be required to appear in person during the Black
Hills Stock Show for a scholarship award ceremony.

Selection Process
Selection will be based on the following criteria:
1. Academic (grades) 25%
2. Personal (employment, extra curricular, honors, community service) 25%
3. Short essay: “Advancing My Western Heritage Through Continuing
Education and Career” 30%
4. Financial need (20%)
Renewal of Scholarship
The BHSS Foundation scholarship can be renewed one time. If the student meets
the following criteria, he/she may contact the BHSS Foundation office for renewal.
The second scholarship or renewal will be awarded the first semester of the
second year. It is not necessary to fill out the application form again. Mail your
college transcripts and student status forms to the Black Hills Stock Show
Foundation Committee at the address below.
1 Student must have completed two semesters as a full time student.
2 Student must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
3 Student must submit original college transcript with classes completed.
4 Proof of full time student status for the renewal year according to college or
school criteria.
